Tip of the Iris

2018
ICR Stockholm will host on April 13-20, 2018 the first personal exhibition of artist Dragos Badita; in Sweden. The exhibition, named "Tip of the Iris", consists in a series of paintings done over the last two years, which, starting from the artist's phenomenological interest in visual perception, explore the physical, biological and mental processes that go together to generate the seen world.
It can be said that vision is a tactile sense; we are touched by the light that falls on the retina. The eyes evolved from an area of the skin sensitive to the touch of light; from the epidermis that burned easily. From a mole. This connection was lost on the level of experience; touch-by-sight, the visible world now has something diaphanous, etheric and unreal. Only touch provides materiality and with it we truly feel the reality of the world. Painting brings again the visible world to the immediate touch: the intangible sky becomes a colorful and malleable paste, which you apply on canvas like you stretch the butter on the bread. You touch the portraits with the pigment on the canvas, trying to guess the features, as a blind person tries to read you touching your face.
