"Dragos Badita’s latest series of artworks of oil on wood link with classical studies of light and shadows, textures and iconic-looking portraits. His works reflect on painting canons while challenging their understanding in contemporary times.
Straightforwardly, his exhibited works pose a question of how a growing relationship is governed by time – what is the sensible moment to start a family together and how are the roles of both partners mediated? For example, the artist employs the colour blue, which is typically associated with motherhood to depict a man in a hood carrying a child at his chest. The expressive vulnerability of the imagery in Dragos Badita’s paintings contrasts with the solid presence of the wood surfaces he paints on, thus transforming the pieces into painting objects, with a grounded presence and an indepth exploration of a moving moment."
